Is Throwing Waste in the Bin Enough to Solve the Trash Problem?

Waste is one of the major environmental issues we need to tackle together. Unfortunately, simply throwing trash in the bin is not enough—this effort needs to be paired with proper waste management. But before managing it, Asri Citizens need to understand the different types of waste first!

Types of Waste and Their Management

Waste can be categorized into four types: plastic waste, paper waste, organic waste, and other types of waste. According to the Indonesian Dictionary (KBBI), waste is defined as something that is discarded because it is no longer useful. But is it true that items that are no longer used have no value at all?

In fact, there are ways to give value to items that are no longer useful, one of which is through waste management activities. Consistency in managing waste is key to ensuring these activities are effective, considering that most of our daily activities generate waste.

Circular Economy in the Community

The Circular Economy concept is a method that maximizes the usefulness and added value of raw materials, components, and finished products, thereby reducing the amount of waste that ends up in landfills. Chandra Asri Group recognizes the importance of involving many parties in addressing the waste issue. One of their initiatives is waste management based on the circular economy through partnerships aimed at finding the best solutions for plastic waste management.

Through the SAGARA program, Chandra Asri Group collaborates with communities and fishermen to collect waste in coastal areas and surrounding environments, preventing plastic waste from entering the ocean. Additionally, through KSM Sehati Maju Bersama, they develop integrated waste management by strengthening community capacity through the Integrated Waste Management Industry-Solve Waste, Manage Independently (IPST ASARI). Here, communities that deposit plastic waste can receive pyrolysis oil, which can be used as fuel in daily activities.

Why Is It Important?

The circular economy concept offers an intriguing solution—Asri Citizens can start by getting into the habit of separating waste, depositing it at waste banks, and turning items that were once trash into valuable products.

So, what are you waiting for? Let’s start the habit of sorting waste from ourselves and our surroundings to create a greener environment!
