Understanding Green Jobs and the Facts!

Warga Asri, have you heard the term “green jobs”? This term frequently appeared in recent political discussions. Green Jobs are environmentally friendly positions within a sustainable economy. Let’s explore more about Green Jobs that are perfect for you, the environmental enthusiast!

Meaning of Green Jobs

The term “green jobs” was introduced by the International Labor Organization (ILO), referring to jobs related to sustainable development and low emissions agendas. In response, the government, through the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas, is committed to leading and supporting the promotion of green jobs.

Additionally, the government has noted that the demand for green talents or workers with green skills is increasing, aligned with the growing implementation of a green economy in Indonesia.

According to Kompas.com, Denni Puspa Purbasari, Executive Director of the Pre-Employment Card Program, stated that based on reports from Bappenas and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the need for green talents is expected to reach 4.4 million people by 2030. Are you interested in pursuing green jobs?

Most In-Demand Green Jobs

According to the Global Green Skills Report published by LinkedIn, there are three green jobs that are most sought after by Indonesian companies. These are energy analysts, agronomists, and sustainability managers.

But don’t worry, there’s more! Other green jobs include solar energy system technicians, as solar panels are becoming more efficient power sources. There are also opportunities in waste management startups and renewable energy startups.

If you’re interested in fashion, you can become a sustainable fashion designer who produces eco-friendly clothing designed for long-term use.

Urban farmers are also needed for cultivating, processing, and distributing food, involving livestock, horticulture, agroforestry, and aquaculture. Besides farmers, architects who apply green architecture concepts are also being developed to avoid environmental damage.

Surprisingly, content creators are also considered green jobs. Most of their work is done online, which generates minimal waste and does not harm the environment, making it part of green jobs.

Company Efforts to Support Green Jobs

To maximize the benefits of green jobs, efforts from both job types and companies must go hand in hand. Chandra Asri Group is working to minimize waste in landfills by activating Waste Management Industries (IPS). Partnering with various stakeholders, Chandra Asri Group established IPS Masaro, which manages waste from 1,000 households in the Serdag Baru neighborhood, Cilegon.

Through IPS, communities can deposit sorted household waste for weighing and exchange it for incentives. The processed waste is then turned into fuel, plastic-based asphalt additives, fertilizers, organic feed, and planting media.

Warga Asri, let’s embrace sustainable living, from our daily routines to our careers. Share these intriguing insights about green jobs with your circle! Happy working!
