Recently, there have been many environmental conservation actions to protect the Earth and human health. Everyone keeps supporting the efforts to reduce worsening global warming impacts.
The Indonesian government also collaborates in environmental conservation by establishing the national initiative of Gerakan Indonesia ASRI (Aman, Sehat, Resik, Indah). Want to know more about Mr. Prabowo’s initiation and the other movements? Read this article until the end!
Get to Know Gerakan Indonesia ASRI

At the beginning of 2026, Prabowo (the 8th Indonesian president) officially launched Gerakan Indonesia ASRI (Aman, Sehat, Resik, Indah) as one of the efforts in tackling the waste issue and creating a clean environment together.
This initiative becomes the government’s commitment to handling the national waste problem in an integrated manner. Prabowo, in the Central and Regional Governments’ National Coordination Meeting, mentioned that some regions had highlighted the waste issue.
Almost all landfills (TPAs) in Indonesia are projected to undergo overcapacity at least by 2028. This aligns with the data by Sistem Informasi Pengelolaan Sampah Nasional (SIPSN) by the Ministry of Environment.
SIPSN reports that by 2025, there will be 524 landfills spread across 514 regencies and cities in Indonesia. Meanwhile, the combined population of these hundreds of regions exceeds 280 million.
The data center also notes that there are 109,092 tons of waste per day that remain unmanaged, or approximately 75% of the 100% waste management target (data as of April 15, 2026).
The amount of unmanaged waste will carry on to increase if the public continues to produce waste and fails to preserve the environment. That is why the Gerakan Indonesia ASRI can serve as the first step in addressing waste management in Indonesia.
This initiative will begin with the construction of 34 waste-to-energy projects in 34 cities by 2026. In addition, Mr. Prabowo also emphasized the importance of synergy among all stakeholders in addressing waste management issues.
To support this initiative, the Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, also proposed the Gerakan Nasional Pengembangan Ruang Terbuka Hijau dan Biru (Galang RTHB).
It was formulated to create well-organized, healthy, and sustainable urban environments. Hopefully, these movements will improve environmental quality in Indonesia and enhance the public’s quality of life.
